"I made it down to view your show at the Michelangelo gallery yesterday. I was
blown away all over again by your work and your clear focus on the visual
interaction of color and materialism. I also love your images because they are
experienced as two dimensional and three dimensional at the same time. The
viewer interacts with the pulp paintings like a two dimensional object because
it is displayed in a traditional two dimensional setting (hung up on a wall).
However, both the sculptural quality of paper pulp and materialistic differences
from one natural fiber to the next require a time-based interaction with the
viewer. The book artist Hank Hine, when he visited Santa Barbara in the Spring
of 2004, spoke about how the single act of folding a sheet a paper causes it to
transform from two dimensional to three dimensional. That is one aspect of book
arts that fascinates him. I feel like you have achieved what Hank was talking
about without requiring the act of folding."
