Streamer (installation, Museum of Art and History, Santa Cruz CA) 2010 32’ x 4’6”
This sculptural work consists of 24 single sheets of paper 32 feet long and exhibited in the entry of The Museum of Art and History, Santa Cruz, CA. I chose a simple theme, the history of papermaking in fiber. I would start at the top with hand beaten kozo that represents an eastern fiber, then abaca; then cotton, a European fiber; and ending up with American blue jean fiber from several old pairs of my Levis. A secondary theme, using contrasting pigmented pulp, I made symbols and marks to document this essence of communication.
